Stillness of the night,
It made me stop and listen,
To some distant sound.
Out in the darkness,
A familiar sound came,
Like wind through the trees.
Month: April 2020
Tues 28/04/20
A wet day outside,
And I wanted to go out,
And feel its wetness.
Feel the wind blowing,
And the drops of rain falling,
And make me feel cold.
I lost it again,
All I didn’t really have,
And now it is gone.
The coffee half drunk,
Still at the edge of the stool.
Warm and welcoming.
Mon 27/04/20 Corona Virus
Corona Virus,
Go now, disappear, be gone,
And let us be free.
The things we all miss,
Like walks outside, and travel,
Or chatting with friends.
Thank you, health workers,
For all you’ve done and still do,
God bless and keep you.
Sun 26/04/20
I’m looking for them,
Those few words that run away,
Somewhere last weekend.
“What’s your point?”, I ask.
Staring at the pencil hard,
2B, maybe not.
I draw a thick line,
And to me that is 2B,
And then I smudge it.
Sat 25/04/20 I am Just Waiting
I am just waiting,
For fortune to shine on me,
And rest in its glow.
I am just waiting,
For my dream job to come home,
I’ll write and travel.
I am just waiting,
For the pennies all to roll,
In unending streams.
Sat 25/04/20 Spring Thoughts
Spring and freshly green,
Frequently and breeze kissed seen,
Leaves verdant imprints.
Blue as the clear sky,
Pale by the suns brilliance,
The playground of clouds.
Sat 25/04/20 Cockney Slang Numbers
This number is ‘lost‘,
This number’s lost it ‘bottle‘,
And this one’s ‘holy‘.
This number will ‘stand‘,
This number holds all the ‘jacks‘,
And this will ‘fiddle‘.
This is ‘Exeter‘,
This number’s in your ‘garden‘,
This one’s black as ‘coal‘.
The last one is ‘cock‘,
In Cockney slang for numbers,
In R J Clarke’s book.
Friday 24/04/20
The weekend is here,
That gives me a lot of cheer,
And time to myself.
Buy the book, buy it! It will help me to focus, and finish it soon.
Thinking of travel,
I want to take a long cruise,
And simply relax.
Thurs 23/04/20
Took an evening stroll,
Down the path to the bluebells,
And the long way home.
Such a lovely day,
The sun teased through the window,
Asking me, ‘Come play!’
I couldn’t go out, The door was shut and locked fast, And tea was ready.
Weds 22/04/20
Mixing up my dates,
April is a funny month,
Not spring or summer.
May, may do better,
May day on Friday the 8th,
First for many years.
So, can it be fun, To write in a single line, My haiku poem.
